Hi, my name is Coraima Valdez and my husband Timothy and I are the owners of Simple Beginnings LLC. We have 4 beautiful, wild, fun boys ages 7,6,5 and 8 months old! We love going hiking, swimming and camping! We are huge Disney fans and have a Pitbull named Ghost and a sphynx cat named Chuckie! We love barbecues and watching movies together. Our family started this business because we truly believe we can make a difference in the lives of the people we serve. Through a lot of research we have come up with a strategy that we believe will benefit the individuals in our care. Our goal is to really teach the individual how to be independent and how to be able to maintain that independency even when they are no longer with us. We've put a lot of our time in speaking with parents and guardians on how they feel their family member could be better represented and we've incorporated all of those ideas into our business model. We've taken time to identify where the biggest issues arise and they all seem to be the same throughout all of the providers. Staffing, transportation, not enough activities, and communication. We have a solid plan to alleviate those issues. Staffing has been a major problem in this industry and the pandemic made it even worse. We have developed an internship with Weber State University's education and health departments. We only accept students that have demonstrated they are eager to learn and aid those we work with. Part of our internship is paying a highly competitive wage of $18 and college credit upon completion of the internship. Transportation is a difficulty to providers because staff is expected to drive their own vehicles and pay for the gas themselves. At Simple Beginnings we are providing gas reimbursement to our staff so that they are not burdened with that themselves. Communication falls flat when we focus more on what needs to be done than the "how" to doing it. If at anytime we are falling short please bring it to our attention and we will listen. Community activities seems to be a hard one and one that we think will have an easy fix. We know that our clients funding is very limited and after paying room and board there really isn't much left. This is why we offer our individuals all of the membership options. We pay for those out of our pockets so that they have fun places to go and enough activities to attend. This way there is always something available whether it be indoor or outdoors. There is always a reason to go out into the community!
